When things moved to the newly-formed WP studio, they kept going in this direction and hired a bunch of 3D animators.

The game was originally in 3D because that made logistical sense when TOG was developing the game. Last year they had to scrap a lot of the animation assets because the game's art style was switched from 3D to 2D. There are unconfirmed rumors that TOG were dropped because they were doing shady things. had to start up an entirely new video game studio called What Pumpkin to work on it. The first one was that the developer that was originally working on the project, The Odd Gentlemen, was dropped from the project, and Andrew & co. More specifically, there have been two major setbacks (that we know of): The game has taken a long time to develop because game development is hard. Based on the initial announcement a long-ass time ago, it seems like this was gonna set-up the possibility of another four-part game which would star that Troll on Earth, but I have no idea if that's still a thing. It seems like she gets "swapped" with a Troll who gets sent to Earth in her place. The basic premise is that the main character gets teleported to Alternia. It's apparently set in the B1 universe during the 1990s and will feature new characters and won't directly have anything to do with Sburb, but will also reveal some new background information pertinent to Homestuck's storyline. Hiveswap is an adventure game that will be released in four episodes.
